Love it or hate it, the Delta Edmonton Hotel South has been repainted.

The colourful paint job seemed to divide Edmontonians - you were either in the majority who found it hideous, or in the small minority who welcomed the whimsical addition of colour to the beigecore south. Okay, I may have one of the only ones who found it whimsical.

Well, citizens, fear not! The hotel is transformed! From circus pizzazz to….stark white.

What do you think? One anonymous person responded to the photos by saying “I think it’s even uglier”. Which begs the question “how was that even possible?”. Oh, Edmonton. You crazy go-getter, you.

I think part of the problem is that the new paint job masks all of the architectural details. I wasn’t a fan of the circus theme, but at least you could see the round column and the diagonal lines provided some visual interest.

This construction is so exciting to me! Can’t wait to see...

I have to say, I am completely amused by all the uproar about a recently-published study in Pediatrics that was reported to have found that “Spongebob ruins attention spans.” And not just because a scientist got published (and probably paid) for writing an article that actually includes the line describing “a very popular fantastical cartoon about an animated sponge that lives under the sea.” No, I’m amused because the study is a giant pile of shit and nobody in the media - or the official goddamn journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics - has apparently noticed.

I dreamt I bought a red brick building. It was on 104 Street in downtown Edmonton. The basement and main floors held my business. The second and third were divided into apartments that I rented to artists. The fourth floor was my apartment for me and my family and accessed the rooftop patio.
